Angie Corritone

Secretary

Angie is a mom, lifelong learner, and social justice advocate who is passionate about dismantling harmful practices in order to cultivate sustainable change within a system. In her various roles, she works collaboratively to foster inclusive school cultures and communities. She has lived and worked in the San Ramon Valley for over 28 years and her sons attended SRVUSD schools. Angie has a Masters degree in Educational Psychology and has held various volunteer leadership roles on PTA and Ed Fund Boards, including the SRV Council of PTAs and as DEI Chair at SRVHS. Angie participates in anti racist organizations including the San Ramon Valley Diversity Coalition. Angie’s grandparents were Holocaust survivors. As a white cis-woman who is connected to the Jewish value of “Tikkun Olam” (healing the world), she has always felt obligated to take that responsibility seriously, in honor of all they sacrificed for her existence. Angie understands the importance of using her privilege to elevate representation and voice of those who historically have been unheard and unseen, which includes the LGBTQ community.

Angie’s everyday heart work is as an Assistant Principal at Monte Vista High School, where the number of students who are members of marginalized groups has increased significantly over the past 5 years. It is not a secret that Angie’s priority in her role is to do all she can to ensure ALL students feel safe. One of her favorite ways to do this is to build trusting relationships and learn about each and every student’s unique story, and then empower them to be their best self by being their biggest cheerleader. Angie is honored to serve in her community. She feels it is a gift to be surrounded by teens who inspire her with hope. Before being an AP, Angie was a Teacher on Special Assignment for Equity and Culturally Responsive Teaching. Through that, she connected with amazing, like minded thought partners throughout the Bay Area who she leans on to push her to be better. One of her proudest accomplishments was being the lead developer of SRVUSD’s year long Ethnic Studies course, and working toward obtaining Board approval for a maiden launch in Fall of 2021. It was a huge team effort and PFLAG was a huge support!

One of Angie’s relatives came out as trans in 2020. This brought lots of new learning, and expected anxiety, but fortunately it was a beautiful moment for the entire family. That is not always the case for LGBTQ youth. Just as PFLAG has been an invaluable support for Angie’s family, she wants to make sure that ALL people, no matter their gender identity or sexual orientation, have a support system where they can be their true selves. Angie is honored to serve on the PFLAG Board and is grateful to be able to combine all of her hats - parent, aunt, educator, and community member, to make sure our youth know we love them no matter what.

Angie is a proud mom to four boys - two are human and two are feline. Her 20 year old is a soccer goalkeeper in his third year of college, and her 18 year old is also a soccer goalkeeper who will be attending college in June. Her 9 year old indoor cats, Harry and Winston, also do tricks that are goalkeeper-like but are much more amenable to being the spoiled subjects of her non-stop photo shoots than the human boys are. Angie is married to Mike, also a school administrator. For fun, Angie enjoys Zumba, the beach, and chocolate… when she is not walking the cats in their stroller (yes), or watching her sons play soccer (#icantkeepcalmiamakeepermom).
